Experience and expertise

Charles is a Director of Chartac Acorn Financial Services (Pty) Ltd. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1976. In 1993 he became a partner in a local firm of Chartered Accountants and in November 2007, Charles became a partner in Crowe HZK and thereafter opened his own accountancy practice - Gurland & Associates.


Charles is a Certified Financial Planner and assists clients with their retirement planning, life and
disability assurance. He also assists companies with their employee benefit requirements.


Charles is responsible for providing accountancy services to small and medium size business. He also has a large number of clients in the medical and dental fields.


He has contributed numerous articles to the national journals of the South African Medical Association as well as the South African Dental Association. He has also delivered lectures on practice management and related tax planning tips.

Gil is the Administrative Director of the Company and Managing Partner at Crowe HZK.  He is also a Director of Horwath Technical Services SA (Pty) Ltd.

 

Experience

  • Gil was admitted as a Chartered Accountant in 1992 and as a partner of Crowe HZK in 1995.  His areas of specialisation include reporting, auditing, IT and owner managed business.  He has a keen interest in Information Systems specifically looking at the reporting and analysis of data.

 

  • Gil has taken a keen interest in many areas within the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) having served on the Information Technology Committee of SAICA.  He has also been active in various groupings in SAICA dealing with the implementation of the Companies Act 2008.  Gil was appointed to the Southern Region Council in 2006 and has served on the Executive Committee of Council since 2008.  In July 2010 he was nominated as Vice-President of SAICA for the Southern Region and in May 2012 was appointed as President until May 2014.  He served on the Southern Region Council until May 2016.  In 2012, he was appointed to the SAICA National Board.  He was elected vice chair of the Board for 2013-2015, and served as Chairman of the Board for 2015-2017.

 

  • Gil believes in responsible leadership, integrity and ethical standards.  He enjoys assisting his clients with their business accounting, reporting and taxation needs as well as in providing management advisory services with these basic values in mind.  He has assisted with a number of corporate restructures.
